Sports
Gore High School offers a wide range of team and individual sports within the school and participation is encouraged.
A sports specialist is employed to coordinate sport in the school. Students are able to choose from the more traditional team sports of hockey, cricket, netball, rugby, and soccer. Basketball, volleyball, touch rugby, softball, badminton, tennis and squash are also available.
We have sports exchanges with South Otago High School. Sport is often an area where parents get involved in the life of the school.
Gore High School has formed ‘clubs’ for rugby, cricket, netball and hockey.
Gore High School regularly competes in the New Zealand Secondary Schools’ kayaking competition, the South Island Secondary Schools’ swimming competition as well as rock climbing and trapshooting events. We also compete in other competitions which include inter-collegiate athletics, skiing, equestrian, athletics and cross country events, involving a large number of students.
The school has achieved some individual and team titles in both local and national championships. However, the emphasis is still on participation, commitment and enjoyment for everyone involved.
